Paloma Tankless Water Heaters come in six different series, all built for different sized homes and with different features. Like other brands of tankless hot water heaters, Paloma's water heaters are far more energy efficient than the traditional tank water heaters. Not only do tankless hot water heaters save you money on your energy bill, they will also provide a more consistent supply of hot water. This is especially true when it comes to performing multiple hot water activities at once, such as multiple simultaneous showers, showering while running the dishwasher, or showering while running the washing machine.

Paloma Models at a Glance

5.3 Series: Perfect for smaller homes, condominiums or apartments, or people who live alone or with only one other person. The 5.3 Series can provide up to two simultaneous showers in the winter for warmer climates, or one shower at a time in the winter for colder climates.

6.6 Series: This series provides a little more power than the smaller 5.3. In warmer climates, it can provide three simultaneous showers in the winter, and in colder climates it can provide two simultaneous showers. The 6.6 Series is the right choice for average-sized homes and average-sized families.

7.4 Series: The 7.4 Series provides the same number of showers as the 6.6 Series. Unlike the 6.6 Series, the 7.4 is intended strictly for residential use, whereas the 6.6 Series can also be used in commercial settings.

28-C Series: This commercial-only series provides about the same amount of hot water as the 7.4 Series, but can reach a higher maximum temperature (180 degrees Fahrenheit). The 28-C, therefore, is a good choice for laundromats, salons, and restaurants.

28-C System: The 28-C can be used for commercial or residential settings. Perfect for large homes or families, or commercial settings with high hot water needs, the 28-C System can provide up to six simultaneous showers (or greater) in the winter in warm climates, and four simultaneous showers (or greater) in cold climates.

"I bought a propane heater for my mountain cabin & it's the best thing since pressed ham. It was a little pricey to install, but in the long run it saves propane and is good for the earth. ~ConsumerReports.org Reader - Greg Kittelson"

The 5.3 Series is also a good option for homes looking to expand their hot water heater system; for example, if a family of four decides they need more hot water than what their 6.6 Series can provide, adding a 5.3 unit is an easy way to increase hot water capacity.

The 5.3 Series can provide a maximum of 3.6 gallons of hot water per minute under extreme winter conditions in northern climates, and a maximum of 5.3 gallons of hot water per minute under extreme winter conditions in southern climates. Its capacity rises during warmer months.

Like the 6.6 Series, the 5.3 Series has an Efficiency Rating of 82%, which is about average for a tankless hot water heater, but still far more energy efficient than a traditional tank heater. Also like the 6.6 Series, the 5.3 only comes in an indoor model. For consumers looking for an outdoor model, consider the 7.4 Series, which is Paloma's “Whole Home Solution”.

Other features include:

12 year limited warranty on the Heat Exchanger; 5 year limited warranty on parts (warranty applies to residential uses only)

Digital remote control (waterproof)

The 5.3 can use natural gas or propane

Protected to minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit

Standard Paloma safety features, including the ICAD system, which shuts the unit down if carbon monoxide is detected; and the Overheat Limiter Wrap, which is a fire protection feature

Given environmental concerns and the unending rise in energy costs, tankless hot water heaters are definitely the wave of the future. Compared to standard tank heaters, tankless systems, such as the Paloma 5.3 Series, provide more hot water for ultimately less cost.

The Paloma 6.6 Series PH-25 has somewhat less capacity than their larger 7.4 Series.
The Paloma 6.6 Series PH-25 has somewhat less capacity than their larger 7.4 Series. The 6.6 Series can provide up to 4.6 gallons of hot water per minute during winter months in the north, and up to 6.6 gallons of hot water per minute during winter months in the south. The 6.6 Series is a good choice for families that will not have more than two people showering at a time, or more than one shower and one other household task requiring hot water (such as running the dishwasher). Larger families and homes should consider one of Paloma's models with greater capacity, such as the 7.4 Series or the PH-28C for extreme hot water needs or commercial applications.

Like the 7.4 and 5.3 Series, the Paloma 6.6 Series PH-25 comes standard with a DUOnex system, a design that allows the unit to easily combine with a second unit, thus greatly increasing hot water capacity. The DUOnex system offers consumers peace of mind, because if the 6.6 Series turns out to not be enough to meet your hot water needs, or if your hot water needs change, adding a smaller additional unit is simple.

Other features of the 6.6 Series include:

80% Efficiency Rating (for tankless hot water heaters, this rating is a bit below average, but still is up to 30% more energy efficient than a traditional tank water heater)

Works with natural gas or propane

Includes a waterproof digital remote control

For residential applications, the 6.6 Series comes with a 12 year limited warranty on the Heat Exchanger, plus a 5 year limited warranty on parts

Unlike the larger Paloma 7.4 Series, the 6.6 only comes in an indoor model. This makes the 6.6 a good choice for condominiums, townhomes, and apartments, which may not have the option to install an outdoor unit.

Like all Paloma tankless water heaters, the 6.6 includes their ICAD system. The ICAD system is a special safety feature that monitors the unit for the production of any carbon monoxide. If carbon monoxide is detected, the unit is automatically shut down. Other safety features include the Overheat Limiter Wrap, a fire safety mechanism that shuts the unit down if it overheats.

The Paloma 7.4 Series PH-28 tankless water heater is an excellent choice for couples, small families, or average-sized homes. In northern climes, expect the Paloma 7.4 Series PH-28 to provide hot water for two simultaneous showers during the winter months – a maximum of 5.2 gallons of hot water per minute. In southern climes, expect the same model to provide hot water for three simultaneous showers during the winter months, or 7.6 gallons of hot water per minute maximum. During the summer months, the efficiency of these tankless hot water heaters is even better, because the unit doesn't have to work as hard to heat the water. For most homes, the 7.4 Series PH-28 is sufficient to provide an endless supply of hot water.

With an Energy Factor of 0.84, Paloma easily equals or out-performs the best tankless hot water heaters on the market. Furthermore, like all tankless hot water heaters, the Paloma 7.4 Series PH-28 is far more efficient than traditional tank water heaters. In fact, tankless hot water heaters like this one are up to 30% more efficient.

The Paloma Tankless 7.4, along with their 6.6 and 5.3 series, includes an option to use one unit or easily add a second unit if your hot water needs increase. If you decide the 7.4 Series isn't enough to accommodate your needs, or if your needs change because you add to your family, expanding your tankless hot water system is easy. Other product features include:

Digital remote control

Indoor, outdoor, and direct vent models all available

High altitude models available

Capable of using either natural gas or propane

Additionally, all Paloma tankless water heaters include their ICAD system, a sophisticated safety feature designed to prevent any carbon monoxide. “ICAD” stands for “Incomplete Combustion Avoidance Device”. The ICAD system monitors combustion in the unit's firing chamber, and if it detects a problem, the unit is automatically shut down.

All the Paloma digital models (as opposed to their Legacy models), including the Paloma 7.4 Series PH-28, include an Overheat Limiter Wrap. The wrap is a plastic film which wraps around the heat exchanger. If the plastic melts or deforms because the heat is too high, the unit automatically shuts down. This unique safety feature provides the Paloma digital models with an automatic fire protection mechanism.
