As many consumers look to conserve energy the concept of tankless water heaters have become popular. Rather than heating water continuously, tankless water heaters feature on-demand heating of water. These are often also called endless supply water heating systems because the supply of hot water never runs out as long as the instantaneous demand rating for the water heater is not exceeded.

The Takagi T-K3-OS Tankless Water Heater is offered in either a propane or natural gas powered heater for outdoor installations, with a maximum input rating of 190,000 BTU/hr. The heater is 13.8 inches wide, only weighs 40 pounds and can easily fit between two studs for a clean, neat installation. In addition, the heater uses a powered venting system that requires no additional Category III venting for ease of installation.

The heater automatically switches on when a flow rate of 0.5 GPM is detected, although flow rates can be sustained as low as 0.4 GPM and as high as 7.0 GPM. At maximum rated flow, the maximum temperature rise which can be expected is 40 deg F. The built-in thermostat is a four stage adjustable thermostat with fixed settings of 113, 122, 140 and 167 deg. F, with a default setting of 122 deg. F. The unit also can be conveniently equipped with a remote sensing thermostat that has 16 different setpoints.

The Takagi T-K3-OS Tankless Water Heater is equipped with 3/4" NPT inlets and is capable of handling water pressure ranging from 15 to 150 PSI. The company offers a 10 year warranty on the heat exchanger and 5 years on parts for residential use. The warranty terms for commercial applications, however, is 3 years on the heat exchanger and 3 years on parts. The heater also offers such safety features as built in freeze protection, input and output temperature monitoring as well as a flame sensor to eliminate the danger of gas leakage.
